Both Husband and Wife will need to obtain a license within 60 days of the Wedding. Husband and Wife will need to provide their social security card or a W2 with their social security number listed on it AND a valid government picture ID which includes a date of birth, such as a drivers’ license or passport. If either Husband or wife was divorced less than a year ago, they will also need a divorce decree with the judge’s signature and date. If either Husband or Wife is under 21, they will need a certified birth certificate and if under 18, they will need affidavits and should contact the Register of Deed in the county for specific requirements. A blood test is not required. Additionally an appointment with the county is also not required.

County Offices

Currituck Office: 8am to 4pm – Monday through Friday
Dane Office: 8:30am to 4:30pm – Monday through Friday
Hyde Office (Swan Quarter): 8am to 5pm – Monday through Friday

Marriage License Fee is $60.00 – Payable by cash, check or money order. After the ceremony, the couple must request a Marriage Certificate by sending a written request along with a $10.00 check or money order to the office where license was issued.


There must be at least two witnesses present at the ceremony. The ceremony must be performed by an ordained minister or a magistrate and he/she must sign the marriage license and return it to the office where it was issued within ten days after the ceremony.
